Carbonara alternative

Carbonara App Alternatives for Restaurants (2026)

Carbonara's pricing page bills each two-way SMS and WhatsApp message per use, at rates shown only after you log in (a January 2025 post on its blog calls the messages free). TablesReady puts a monthly text allowance in each plan's price, 150 on Free and 1,000 on the entry Starter tier for US and Canadian numbers, and adds Square and an API on Business. Stay with Carbonara if you want a floor plan on every plan, Free included, or your guests are outside the US and Canada and expect two-way WhatsApp.

We make TablesReady. This page also says when Carbonara is the better choice.

Which fits your business: TablesReady or Carbonara?

Pick TablesReady

You want to know your texting bill before the month starts

For example: a US restaurant that texts every party when its table is ready

Every TablesReady plan includes a monthly text allowance in its price, 150 texts on Free and 1,000 on the entry Starter tier for US and Canadian numbers. There are no overage fees. Texting pauses at your monthly limit. You get alerts at 80, 90 and 100%, and can add messages in one click. Carbonara's pricing page bills each two-way SMS and WhatsApp message from prepaid credits, at rates you can see only inside its Manager Portal; a January 2025 post on its blog calls the messages free.

Pick Carbonara

You take few bookings and want a floor plan for little money

For example: a small café or bar with a handful of tables

Every Carbonara plan, Free included, has a floor plan it can draw from a photo of your room, and assigns online bookings a table or a combination of tables automatically. Its Free plan covers 50 bookings a month and its paid plans start well below ours, so a quiet venue that sends few texts will likely pay less. On TablesReady, the floor plan and online bookings come with Business (from $79/mo, or $69/mo billed annually), and managers combine tables by hand.

Pick TablesReady

Each host needs a login of their own

For example: a restaurant with several hosts and a manager across shifts

Every TablesReady plan, Free included, gives each staff member their own login with Admin, Manager or User access, and their own email or push alerts for new texts, check-ins and bookings. Carbonara's Terms say the venue gets one shared set of credentials, though its privacy policy mentions staff roles. Hosts can run the list on our User role, which hides analytics and notification settings, and a team that would rather share one login can still do that on TablesReady.

Pick TablesReady

You want Square and your other apps tied into your waitlist

For example: a café that rings up orders in Square

TablesReady Business (from $79/mo, or $69/mo billed annually) puts Square orders on the list with an order-ready text when they're completed in Square, and connects to your other systems through Zapier, webhooks and an API. We found no Square, Zapier, webhook or API connection in Carbonara's public material, and Business includes all four.

Pick Carbonara

Your guests are outside the US and Canada and use WhatsApp

For example: a café, bar or restaurant in Europe or Latin America

On Carbonara, staff chat with guests over two-way WhatsApp from a dedicated WhatsApp Business line, plans are priced in local currency for 38 countries, and the staff app runs in 8 languages. Outside the US and Canada, TablesReady keeps US-dollar prices with a tenth of the US message allowance and sends WhatsApp alerts one way only, on every plan. Our staff app is in English, though almost all guest-facing text can be rewritten in your language.

Carbonara: SMS and WhatsApp messages are extra, from prepaid credits at rates shown only after you log in.

*Assumes 2 text messages per party, the median across TablesReady restaurants. TablesReady counts 160-character segments; Carbonara counts bookings, and each waitlist party is one. Each row shows the cheapest published option that covers that many parties, extra-use charges included.

Texting pauses at your monthly limit. You get alerts at 80, 90 and 100%, and can add messages in one click.

On plan price, Carbonara costs less than ours at every volume in both tables, on monthly and annual billing alike, before its per-use message charges. Every Carbonara plan includes a floor plan, so its like-for-like match is our Business plan. Its message rates show only after you log in, and its full monthly bill can't be worked out from its public pages.

Carbonara

  • Free $0

50 bookings per rolling 30 days, where a reservation, a waitlist party and a call-ahead group each count as one, with every Starter feature. Messages are paid per use.

  • Starter, Light and Advanced $9.99, $19.99 or $29.99/mo, or $8.99, $17.99 or $26.99/mo billed annually

100, 300 or 600 bookings a month. Waitlist, reservations, floor plan, two-way SMS and WhatsApp (paid per use), online bookings and ticketed reservations. Light adds UTM tracking; Advanced adds a banner on the queue page and premium email templates.

  • VIP $42.99/mo, or $38.69/mo billed annually

1,200 bookings a month. Adds deposits (per its pricing page; a May 2026 post says every plan), feedback emails and a QR code that refreshes every hour.

  • PX $56.99/mo, or $51.29/mo billed annually

Unlimited bookings. Adds Reserve with Google.

  • Add-ons and messages Reserve with Google $11.99/mo, or $10.79/mo billed annually; messages per use

Reserve with Google is a paid add-on on every plan below PX. Two-way SMS and WhatsApp messages come from prepaid credits, valid for 24 months, at rates shown only inside the Manager Portal.

Above a plan's booking allowance, no new bookings can be added. Ticketed reservations carry a 3.95% commission, falling to 3.45% on VIP and 2.95% on PX. Plans bought in Carbonara's iOS app cost about twice the web price, and its FAQ tells customers to pay on the web. Its pricing page puts deposits on VIP and PX, while a May 2026 post on its blog says every plan, and January 2025 posts call the messages and Reserve with Google free.

Getting started: Sign up yourself in the app or on the web, on the Free plan or a 2-week trial; no demo is required, and you can book a 15-minute call from the pricing page. Plans, booking settings and statistics live in a separate web Manager Portal. Enterprise is by contact form.

Why restaurants look for a Carbonara app alternative

We read 93 Carbonara reviews on Capterra, the App Store, Google Play and Trustpilot. Ease of use comes up most (48 reviews), then low cost (31, though 28 of those date from 2021 to 2023) and fast, friendly support, often in the reviewer's own language (23). Its 4.8 on Capterra rests on 37 reviews, and 35 of them date from 2021 and 2022, when Carbonara was free. The complaints that still apply fall into three groups.

Charges people didn't expect. From 2021 into 2023, Carbonara was marketed as 100% free, messages included (2022 archive of its Truly Free page). Its Free plan covers 50 bookings a month, and its pricing page charges per use for two-way SMS and WhatsApp messages, with rates shown only inside the login-gated Manager Portal (Carbonara pricing). Reserve with Google costs $11.99 a month on every plan below PX. Two January 2025 posts on Carbonara's blog still call the messages and Reserve with Google free. Five reviews, the newest from March 2026, mention pricing surprises, such as finding out a paid plan was needed after all, or add-ons that cost extra (App Store, Google Play and Capterra reviews).

One login for the whole team. Four Capterra reviews from 2021 and 2022 mention the single shared username, or ask for staff roles, custom fields or a client list (Capterra reviews). Carbonara's Terms, updated in September 2026, say it provides one shared set of credentials rather than individually named logins, though its privacy policy mentions role-based staff permissions. Its party forms use preset need icons and a fixed list of occasions, and we found no fields of your own in its public material.

Support hard to reach, thin help material. Three reviews, the newest from May 2025, found support hard to reach or the help material thin; in the 2025 review, bookings were blocked after an invoice had been paid (Capterra and App Store reviews). Its Manager Resources page offers two step-by-step guides in Google Docs, which cover its 2025 and 2026 features, and seven how-to videos from May 2022 (Manager Resources).

Where Carbonara does more than TablesReady

  • Guests can chat with the venue over WhatsApp from a dedicated WhatsApp Business line, on every plan, and a WhatsApp message that fails is resent by SMS. Deposit links can go out by WhatsApp too. TablesReady sends table-ready and confirmation alerts by WhatsApp to guests outside the US and Canada on every plan, and our two-way chat, from Starter, is by text for US and Canadian numbers.
  • Plans are priced in local currency for 38 countries, the staff app runs in 8 languages, and guest messages come in more, including Norwegian, Swedish and Danish. TablesReady prices in US dollars and our staff app is in English, while nearly all the wording guests see can be edited into a single language of your choosing.
  • A floor plan comes with every plan, Free included. Carbonara can draw it from a photo of the room, with walls, obstacles and table sizes. Online bookings get a table, or a combination of tables, in the order you set. On TablesReady the floor plan is on Business and drawn by hand, and managers combine tables for large parties by hand.
  • Deposits are taken as card holds on online and phone bookings, with a log for charging, waiving or refunding them. Carbonara's pricing page puts deposits on VIP and PX, while a May 2026 post on its blog says every plan. TablesReady Business takes Stripe deposits when guests book online, and keeps the deposit when a guest cancels inside your cancellation window.
  • Wait estimates, learned from each venue's own history, come with every Carbonara plan. Ours start on Starter, from a nightly model trained on each location's history by party size, weekday and hour.

Where TablesReady does more for restaurants

  • Every plan keeps a guest list with each guest's visit count and history. Business adds fields of your own (text, number, date, dropdowns and more), which can stay on the guest profile across visits. Carbonara's FAQ says it keeps no database of regulars, while its September 2026 privacy policy keeps guest records for the life of the account.
  • One login moves between any number of locations on any plan, each with its own subscription. Carbonara's FAQ says owners log out of one restaurant to use another, while its App Store listing says it manages several venues.
  • Automatic texts cover more of the wait on every plan, including a next-in-line text at the position you choose and a reply to any text a guest sends. On Business, guests can text to join the list, and confirm, check-in, cancel and running-late keywords update the party on their own. Carbonara's guests can reply, but staff act on each reply, and we found no next-in-line text, automatic reply, keyword automations or text-to-join in its public material.
  • On every plan, each text shows staff its delivery status and, when one fails, a plain-language reason such as a landline or a wrong number. US texts go out from a short code. We found no staff-facing delivery status in Carbonara's public material. Carbonara's public material doesn't say what kind of number its US texts come from.
  • On Business, guests can join your waitlist or book a table from Google Search and Maps through Reserve with Google. Carbonara's Reserve with Google takes bookings only, and it's a paid add-on below its PX plan.

Switching from Carbonara

Most restaurants switch in an afternoon: import upcoming bookings by CSV, paste in your text wording, and run both side by side during the trial.

What carries over

  • Upcoming reservations, through a CSV you prepare. Carbonara documents CSV exports of usage statistics, its marketing list and feedback, and we found no reservation export. List upcoming bookings in a file (date, time, name, party size, phone and notes) and load it with our reservation import, which every plan includes.
  • Your message wording. Paste each Carbonara template into the matching TablesReady message, then add merge fields such as the guest's name, party size and quoted time.

What you set up again

  • Guest records. We can't import a guest list, so each guest's profile and visit count start again the first time they join your list or book. Carbonara can export its opted-in marketing list as a CSV if you want a copy.
  • Your floor plan and tables, on Business. Draw the room by hand in our floor plan builder, set each table for walk-ins, bookings or both, and assign several tables to a large party by hand.
  • Your QR code, booking link and Google listing. Print our check-in QR code (Free), swap the booking link on your website for our booking page, and turn on Reserve with Google (both Business) in place of Carbonara's Google add-on.

Help with the move

On Starter and Business, our email team helps with setup but doesn't import your data; set-up help and data migration come with Enterprise. Carbonara's Terms treat purchases as final except for errors reported within 24 hours, and cancelling moves the account back to its Free plan. Start our 14-day trial (no card needed, up to 150 texts) two weeks before your Carbonara renewal and run both apps side by side.

Carbonara alternative FAQ

What is the best Carbonara app alternative?

It depends on where your guests are and how you message them. For a US or Canadian restaurant that wants texts priced into the plan, our pick is TablesReady: free to start, with Starter from $39/mo for 1,000 texts a month, two-way texting and predicted waits. For a reservation-led venue that wants bookings, tables, a guest CRM and WhatsApp in one system, look at Eat App. For a low-cost waitlist with a Clover app, look at Waitlist Me. If your guests are in Europe or Latin America and expect WhatsApp, Carbonara may still be the better fit. TablesReady is our product, and this answer comes from us.

Does Carbonara charge for text messages?

Yes, according to its pricing page and Terms. Two-way SMS and WhatsApp messages are paid per use from prepaid credits, which last 24 months and can top up automatically, and the rates are shown only inside its Manager Portal after you log in. The Terms mention free messages included with a plan without saying how many, and a January 2025 post on Carbonara's blog calls the messages free. Messaging was free until 2023. TablesReady includes a monthly allowance in every plan, 150 texts on Free and 1,000 or more on paid plans for US and Canadian numbers, with no overage fees. Texting pauses at your monthly limit. You get alerts at 80, 90 and 100%, and can add messages in one click.

Is Carbonara free?

It has a Free plan for 50 bookings per rolling 30 days, where reservations, waitlist parties and call-ahead groups all count, and its pricing page charges for messages per use. Carbonara called itself 100% free from 2021 until early 2023, then added its first paid plan, and by mid-2024 it sold five volume tiers. TablesReady Free covers the waitlist, self check-in and basic reservations for up to 100 parties and 150 texts a month (US and Canada), with unlimited users. Up to 2 locations per account can stay on Free.

Can guests join the waitlist from Google with Carbonara?

We didn't find a way to join Carbonara's waitlist from Google in its public material. Its Reserve with Google listing takes table bookings; it's included on the PX plan and sold as a monthly add-on on the others. TablesReady Business, from $79/mo, lets guests do both from Google Search and Maps: join the waitlist, or book a table using your schedules, services and tables.

Does Carbonara work with Square, Zapier or other apps?

We found no public API, webhooks, Zapier or POS integration on Carbonara's website. TablesReady Business, from $79/mo, brings Square orders onto the waitlist and texts the guest when the order is completed in Square. It also includes a REST API, webhooks for new, updated, checked-in, served and cancelled parties, and Zapier, which is in beta.

Which app is better for WhatsApp, Carbonara or TablesReady?

Carbonara. It runs two-way WhatsApp chats from a dedicated WhatsApp Business line on every plan and resends a failed WhatsApp message by SMS, though its pricing page charges for each message. TablesReady sends the table-ready and waitlist-confirmation messages by WhatsApp to guests outside the US and Canada, on every plan, and US and Canadian numbers get texts instead. Two-way chat on TablesReady is by text, for US and Canadian numbers, on Starter, from $39/mo.

How do I switch from Carbonara to TablesReady?

Carbonara documents CSV exports of usage statistics, its marketing list and feedback, so plan to type upcoming reservations into a CSV for our reservation import, which every plan includes, or add them by hand. Guest profiles build up again as guests return, since we can't import a guest list. On Starter and Business, our support team helps with setup by email, and Enterprise adds data migration. Carbonara's Terms treat purchases as final, so start our 14-day trial (no card) before your next Carbonara renewal and run both.
